QUOTE US church to burn Koran on 9/11 anniversary 15:26 AEST Sat Jul 31 2010 3 hours 37 minutes ago AFP A US church plans to publicly burn copies of the Koran on the ninth anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks. The announcement, from Florida's Dove World Outreach Centre, has prompted threats from Islamic groups and warnings the move will trigger a rise in hate crimes. The church said on its Facebook page it will hold an "International Burn a Koran Day" on September 11, asking other religious groups to join in standing "against the evil of Islam. Islam is of the devil!" "Islam and Sharia law was responsible for 9/11," pastor Terry Jones said "We will burn Korans because we think it's time for Christians, for churches, for politicians to stand up and say no; Islam and Sharia law is not welcome in the US," the organizer of the burning action added. "We've got many death threats from jihad groups, but we cannot react by fear and we cannot compromise our beliefs. Somebody must stand up," Jones added. Reactions to the Koran burning announcement were swift. Members of the Al-Falluja jihadist forum have threatened to "spill rivers of your (American) blood" and "a war the likes of which you have never seen before." Mainstream Muslim groups also denounced the move and lamented the sentiments promoted by the Gainesville church. "Unfortunately in (Florida) and nationwide, Islamophobia are actually on the rise," Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) spokesman Ramsey Kilic told AFP. "I'm more afraid of those who have anti-Muslim sentiments and may think this is a legitimate action and may want to attack a mosque or attack a Muslim on the street," he added. However, Kilic said, "we are not taking any action to avoid this... we don't want to give attention to this, because that's what they want." The Dove church's Facebook site, since the announcement, is rife with threatening messages and corresponding anti-Islam rants. Besides the Koran burning ceremony, the Dove World Outreach Centre also plans an anti-homosexual event August 2 outside Gainesville's City Hall. The "No Homo Mayor Protest" targets the city's first openly gay mayor, Craig Lowe. The website also has for sale "Islam is of The Devil" T-shirts and books by pastor Jones. Nothing get's the hate flowing like religious love for your fellow man This post has been edited by Carebear: Jul 31 2010, 1:18 AM QUOTE "I'm trying to see things from your point of view, but I can't get my head that far up your ass." |

yeah. this shit is going on in Gainesville. heard about it Wednesday. word is it was inspired by the "Ground Zero Mosque." word is also that a bunch of kids from UF are planning on burning bibles across the street. not saying either side is right, but i might have to take the 2 1/2 hour drive up there and bring a lawn chair and a cooler.

I went to UF, I used to keep very entertained by watching the christnuts and the liberal students going back and forth at each other all over campus. Dudes with signs that say "GOD HATES YOU ALL: [insert list of minorities / sexual orientations/ sinners] I loved Gainesville, but outside of a 5 mile radius (the campus basically), the demographic goes Deliverance in a big way. My freshman year my roommate and I acknowledged the notion that we would never be served alcohol at a "college" bar because of how vigilant they are with ID's, so we decided to head out of town a bit. Ended up at a little tavern type place, kinda divey but pretty packed with a rock band playin. Went in, got served no problem, felt like kings... until we looked over and saw a table of bikers with some beautiful tattoos. And by "beautiful" I mean "large swastikas." swiftly realized we were in a fucking white supremacist bar. Next thing you know these dudes are dancing to the band and throwing "big up to hitler" arm salutes all over the place. needless to say, the exit was hasty. pretty much all of rural Florida is like that. if you're not within 5 miles of a beach or a major city you're gonna deal with those types. it just seems to get worse the further north you go.

What a bunch of fucking pussies. If they think Islam is really so bad, they should go to the Middle East and start up where the Ninth Crusade left off.

The most retarded thing about this is how both the qur'an and the bible preach near identical morals. Ignorance is divine.

^ self deprecation is not in OM's vocabulary, so not really
while they're at it they can go ahead and burn all the remaining religious texts. wouldn't it be nice to start the fuck over? i mean, sure there'd be new "religions" and other pyramid schemes that would pop up in their place, but at least they'd be OUR relgions, you know? that'd be nice, imo. that's why when people talk so negatively about Scientology, i dont really get it. i'm actually GLAD that there's 20 churches of Scientology in L.A., i'm sick of fucking christianity and jewish traditional crap, it's the 21st century motherfuckers. let's get some new blood in this bitch. ![]() |
