Watched whole season to get prepared for Sunday. Fucking love that show.
Also, Black Death was fucking good. How is it not good? Not happy ending enough for you? The ending is what MADE Black Death so good.
Unbelievably keen for season 2 of Thrones to start up! To bad I'll have to watch via alternative methods, stupid country. |

I don't care enough to TELL you, as such. In fact, your life is worse off for not reading them, so if you choose to ignore me then I'll just sit here and laugh at how comparatively shit your life is to how it would be if you took my advice.

Great first episode! I'm beginning to realize how little I remember about the second book. That said, the AVClub spoiler review cleared a few things up. If you are a fan of the books you may start having some quibbles with the time line. Apparently they've extended some of the story lines of main characters from the first season/book that don't appear as much in the second book (Jamie, Robb for instance) and truncated some others. Going forward the series seems to shifting away following the books as strictly as they were. Book fanboys are probably going to be up in arms about changes, but unfortunately it seems like it is a necessary given Martin's perspective writing style. While I'm a fan of the books, if the changes are like the penultimate montage of this episode with the killing of Robert's bastard children, which was nothing more than a mention in the book but an incredibly powerful scene, then I'm all for the changes This post has been edited by SparksALot: Apr 2 2012, 12:30 PM ![]() |

I really liked the way that they handled that too. I didn't realize that it was only mentioned in the book until reading about it afterwards. |

Kinda wish I hadn't read that spoiler but yeah, it wasn't really explored in the book at all.
I took the fact that it was just a mention in the book (rather than given much detail) to be just another example of the casual brutality he was conveying but just mentioning it on screen wouldn't work as well so I'm glad it's been given more thought for the adaptation. _______________ Never Open Me Up |

So glad Game of Thrones is back.
Best part for me was watching Joffery getting bitch-slapped, again The part with Jaime, Robb, and the wolf was fucking killer, too. This post has been edited by AggroWilly: Apr 2 2012, 3:04 PM ![]() |

I loved the baby killing sequence, but overall, was left underwhelmed. A poor season opener.
I'm also nervous about the pacing. It already feels like they're trying to cram too much into each episode. I hope I'm wrong. ------------------------------------ ![]() |

I remember. Last season though I hadn't even heard of the books before.
Now I've read them all. Twice. I think I may have ruined it for myself. Edit: should say I'm concerned that I may have ruined it, not so much that I think I have. We shall see. I don't mind the show deviating from the narrative in the books. Martin's writing style doesn't lend itself well to the screen. But I'm worried that instead of just re-aligning stuff and adjusting for pacing, that they'll end up slashing shit out entirely. Cramming a few of the minor Lannister characters into one seems like a good move, writing out the Crannog kids entirely is dangerous territory. Those are NOT minor characters, and this worries me. There's so much to squeeze into these episodes that the pacing and screen time is going to irk people. They've also said they expanded Dany's role beyond what was in the book (which wasn't much).
It was a solid start. Tyrion is heavily involved in the second book and the more of him the better. How could I, ever think, it's funny how, everything you swore would never change, is different now, like you said, you and me make it through, didn't quite, fell apart, where the fuck were you? |

Season 2 episode 1 spoiler: I didn't get why lord Baelish provoked her. Was he just so angry at her and got out of control? Doesn't really seem like a thing for him. And then guards are killing what seems random people and they kill a baby from one of Baelish's whores, what does Baelish care about that? Since he is this cold-blooded "doesn't care about others" guy. Because Robert was the father of the baby and he's also the father for the blacksmith kid Arya is traveling with now. I saw three noticeable elaborations from beyond the book... The tension between little finger and the queen, the tension and suspicion between her and her son, I actually really like that they've given Joffrey some imputence and backbone, while in the first season and in the books he comes across more snivelling than anything else, now at least the fact he's the one who set up Tyron and tried to assassinate bran makes sense and the change/elaboration you all already mentioned and the role of the whores in general being more prominent. I suspect the development of entirely new or further developed and consolidation of minor characters will be used as mechanisms to further the plot on the show, and offer alternative perspectives on incidents that aren't actually told about in the pages of the book. I think we got a hint of that first season when Tyrion stops the ambush of John snow at castle black, that entire sequence Tyrion wasn't even part of in the book, nor was the lesson he asserted spoken by him. I also suspect the essence of the conversation him (and what he is reading/references to the library) and Jon Sow had around the camp fire in the book on the way to castle black regarding dragons etc. will come out in a totally different context later on, as it's integral to the staging of the broader story, cause in the show that conversation is reduced to his books are like wet stones line. I had no idea they were getting rid of the twins? But I could see them consolidating elements of them into the Brans hand maiden and Hotor. But that would be a tragic shift, since in the books you really do want to know more about them... They same will happen with Tyrion's woman, who is semi consequential in the books but is seemingly taking on much more importance in the show...
I was disappointed in the flaming sword, the absence of the red priest thus far, except for a mention in the first season in a brief discussion and for some reason everything appears a bit darker, visibly speaking, it's like they ran it through a filter or something very annoying. I do like the Peter Dinklage gets top/first billing though on the credits! I suspect that on the whole the season will actually cover much more ground than just the second book, the pacing does not seem slowed down to me at all, if anything, it's ramped up... And yet again they've kept the war off screen, if that is a continual practice, then the show will be VERY fast paced indeed... "Fuck You All, Burn!" "These were not our ways. We kept the laws we made and lived our religion. We have never been able to understand the white man, who fools nobody but himself." - ChĂilaphuchissaaleesh Aleek-chea-ahoosh (Plenty Coups/Many Achievements, Buffalo Bull Facing The Wind), Apsáalooke (People of the Large Beaked Bird, aka. Crow), 1848 "The beginning is purification, that's the first step... And purification means purification of body and mind. You don't purify the body without cleansing the mind; that's the way it works." - Rolling Thunder, ah-ni-yv-wi-ya/Tsa-la-gi (Principle People, aka. Cherokee)/Tukuaduka/Panamint (Sheep Eaters, Western Shoshone), 1976 |
