The fact Opeth is number two already shows me they have no goddamn idea what they are talking about. Although that was pretty evident even before I read the list when I saw that it was Runk-Approved. That almost automatically means it's going to suck and be filled with a bunch of crappy bands no one has ever heard of. tongue.gif

I like a lot of that list, but the new opeth still sucks balls. and that's not because I want there to be blast beats and death metal in it, it just isn't that good. I'll have to check the #1 on the list though

Over the half the bands on that list won't even be around in 5 years. Horrible. The Opeth at #2 is hilarious considering it's been destroyed by most of their fans / media.

interesting list.

i need to hear the new Yob.

Trap Them, and Primordial should both be top 10 though imo. and i don't understand why that Vallenfyre album is getting so much love... i thought it was rather boring melodic-death and wouldn't have generated nearly as much interest if it wasn't for the people in the band. good to see Hate Eternal getting some love. that album is a monster. Tombs is a great album too, but not sure if it's number 1 material.

i know Shawnia is mostly joking with his response, but other people on here should look at this list of bands, pick a handful of bands they've never heard of, and at least look them up on MySpace or YouTube. instead of going "i've never heard of that band! it must suck! hahahahaha!" i mean.

^ The Tombs album keeps growing on me like a rash. It sounds almost completely impenetrable (sp?) but every time I hear it it pwns me a little bit more. But I agree it's not #1 material, but certainly top 10 material.

I personally wouldn't put Trap Them (asleep.gif) or Primordial (01laugh.gif) anywhere near the top 40, and I found In Solitude quite bland, YOB did little for me apart from the Scott Kelly song, the Autopsy album started off well (Hand of Darkness = 50stars.png) but is too long (the EP that preceeded it was superior), never cared much for Crowbar, Absu or Skeletonwitch and their recent output didn't change that.

I'd put Bastard Priest, Maim, Morbus Chron, KEN Mode, Giant Squid and Saturnalia Temple on the list instead. But that's just me. 02smile.gif

Nice to see Subrosa (sic), Ulcerate, Rwake, Exhumed and Gridlink getting some love.

Fuck yeah, hilarious that they manage to have their own opinion on something without checking in with the general consensus first! I know that's a completely alien concept to you, but fuck yeah! metal.gif

Apparently, someone from Metalsucks reads RWalters' posts

QUOTE
Before there were blogs there were these things called magazines, and the only metal magazine we still get excited about reading every month is Decibel. Here’s managing editor Andrew Bonazelli to get in on today’s needless-listing fun…

HIPSTERS

“Well, someone didn’t like Wolves in the Throne Room.”

REASONABLE NERDS

“Somewhat surprised that neither Batillus nor Hull cracked the top 40, while Junius—a meh-ish post-something-or-other band w/ a Coldplay vocal influence—did.”

UNDERGROUND ELITIST DOUCHEBAGS

“well im glad to see decible is still totally clueless and of total shit taste as they should be. stay out of the trve vndergrovnd!”

PEOPLE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT LULU

“Over the half the bands on that list won’t even be around in 5 years. Horrible.”

PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY BUY RECORDS

“Glad to see Yob, 40 Watt Sun, Tombs, Subrosa, and Graveyard among a few others getting some love.”

No love for Trap Them or Primordial Runkus? i reckon both of those are fantastic albums. The Primordial one especially. I agree on the Autopsy album, it's solid, but doesn't blow me away (I've never been much of a fan anyway though), I don't recall it being too long though. 40ish minutes?

Skeletonwitch are a gay trendhopper band that Durt likes. similar to Goatwhore. not surprised you're not a fan.

That Crowbar album was great. how can you not love a song like Cleanse Me, Heal Me though?

The Absu release was solid again this year, but like most Absu releases suffers from the fact that it was released by Absu, and is therefore utterly ridiculous and self pretentious.

This list needs more Blut Aus Nord, Fen, and The Project Hate.

I've been a subscriber to Decibel for at least 4 years and this list is even a bit weird to me. Not bad per se, I think the right albums are in the list. The order is a bit off to me, though. Surprised that there is no Wolves in the Throne Room or Cormorant.

On a personal note, I'm so stoked that my boys in Junius got number 10. I became friends with those dudes about 5 years ago and have put them up a couple times for the night when they came through town. They really deserve anything posi they get. Super nice guys who absolutely crush live. They want me to do merch for them on an upcoming tour. Still trying to make that happen. You guys should check them out if you haven't already.

didn't think the new WITTR was as awesome as the last two releases tbh, same goes for the latest primordial, but I guess that one at least struck a real chord with possum 02smile.gif Bloodied yet unbowed remains awesome though

I don't have the record with me at the moment (computer is busted so I'm posting from my parents house - so fucking hardcore) so I couldn't say how long it is, but it felt to me like it dragged like hell. Perhaps it really only is 40sh minutes, but that would only make me think even less of it as it felt like 60+ at least.

But like I said, it opens very strongly. Though I must admit I liked Hand of Darkness even more back when I misread the title as "Hard of Darkness" (as in a very Reifert-esque pun on the novel Heart of Darkness). Imagine my disappointment.

Durt being a fan tells you everything you need to know about Skeletonwitch. I literally have nothing more to add.

Yeah, alright, fine. I admit that particular song is pretty sweet, but generally I've never been a big Crowbar fan. They just don't nibble my taint the right way.
