That song's pretty good, hopefully the album has a bit better to offer though. Loved the last album and really looking forward to this one.

Believe in Nothing was the last PL record I devoted some time to, never paid much attention to the back-to-being-metal albums... But damn, that new song sounds great on the first listen!
One Second was such a rich, diverse and original album so many great songs that metalheads pretty much accepted it after being initially shocked. It was Host that killed the band's momentum. I like that record a lot, despite it being a bit bland and formulaic, but I get why it flopped. People could process PL going alternative with One Second, all the bands did at the time, but going electro-pop was sadly a bit too much of a gamble. ^ I know what you mean, but personally I only see the last album 'Faith divides us...' as the back to metal thing.
The albums after 'Believe in nothing' which were 'Symbol of life' 'Paradise Lost' and 'In requiem' (probably my joint fave with 'Host') definitely still had some of that 'One second' & 'Host' vibe, which I love more than their more metal stuff really) so I'd recommend you check them out! The new one sounds like it'll carry on more in the metal vein of the last album though. |

Like em both. Find them catchier than their latest two records, wasn't too fond of those.

Pretty average & missing something that they usually have, also the vocals are fairly one dimensional this time I reckon. Still I'll be buying the album, love PL.

I like this song a lot. it's pretty much PL how you'd expect them to sound. Ofcourse I'll be hoping for one or two positive surprises, but this is a very good start. great video

The video for Faith Divides Us Death Unites Us was awesome! This one is a bit disappointing, feels like a variation on scenes from "The Road". The song is fine.

The songs are good, but like the last album, it is lacking a little something that makes it special and exciting. Kinda sounds like Draconian Times b-sides. Still, pretty good stuff and worth the buy.

+1 Agree pretty much with what you said there. Obviously I need to hear the whole album but it seems as though maybe PL are settling into a crowd pleasing 'Draconian times' type sound (seeing as that is their best known disc). |

personally I think this song could replace some songs on DT, but since that won't happen for obvious reasons I hope that the album contains the same quality or more

Some bands should be in the metal genre, some should not. Clearly, Paradise Lost belongs in the depressing synth-pop/rock musical department.
Megadeth has no business playing alt rock, much less techno-pop. Just like PL has no business playing metal. Don't try to "school me" on PL, I've been aware of them since Icon was the new album. How so? I kept hearing the James Hetfield comparisons and said "what the hell?" Might as well give them a shot. PL's best stuff are from Draconian Times to the Self-titled. (although "Host" is waayyyy tooo boring for my tastes) This new stuff is "Draconian Times" all over again. And doing "that", is just pointless. Trephine Artist is dead on about the vocals. Nick can do soft vocals, hard vocals and death growls. Why not do ALL 3!!! Or at least 2 of those. PL's entire career in summary. Lost Paradise= aside from Nicks vocals, this thing sucks. Gothic= ditto Shades of God= 3 good songs. Mortals watch the day, Pity the sadness, As I Die. The rest has no point. Still an improvement over the noise of the last 2. Icon= Not as fierce as the last one and unfortunately Matt Archer is still drumming. Sounds like metal on slow-mo with a bad drummer. Decent to Good songs but the pace of the album and that drummer combo are just Draconian Times = With better songs and a competent drummer in Lee Morris, this album is a winner. A bit slow at times, the drummer keeps the slow metal songs from boring you. Personal Favorite= Yearn for change. One Second= Drastic left turn, but they still got the Icon/ DT logo so I guess this album is accepted amongst PL's metal fans. A few duds on here, but a strong dark synth-rock album. Not a metal album despite the logo. They fooled you. That's what "Marketing" does. Personal Favorite= This Cold Life Host= boring. Not enough music to compensate for the lack of rocking. Adding instruments other than electronic music, like.. let me see... A FUCKING PIANO! Violins, organs, would have made this much better and would have fit in PL's depressing sound. Best song by far = So much is Lost. Unfortunetly, pure electronic music and absolutely nothing else = forever failure. Believe In Nothing= Greg may not like this album, but I do. Much more of a rocking vibe than electronica. I bet this is what Greg doesn't like about it. Well, I like instruments and not much electronic music. He probably wanted to do Host part 2, I'm glad that didn't happen. Favorite song= I am Nothing. World Pretending up there as well. Symbol of Life= With Rhys Fulber setting the mood in the producers chair, this album has alot of good industrial/gothic along with dark synth rock. Not metal by my standards, but robotic and depressing it is. Not one of my favorite albums by them, but solid. Another good performance by Nick and a turn to a darker direction Paradise Lost= Same as the last one; but more gothic rock than industrial. For me, that's a plus. Great album throughout. Might be my favorite. A bit undecided between this and DT. Love the sound of Nicks voice here. In Requiem= going back to full on Gothic Metal as opposed to Dark synth rock. Yet not quite there. Not a big fan since I've heard this from PL before. They also signed to Century Media so that means find a formula and stick with it. Since PL's fan favorite era is Icon and DT, going backwards should be no surprise. FDU-DUU= Definetely gothic metal. No dark synth rock whatsoever. Using much more "fan-favorite" influence. Just like Icon, this album doesn't do much for me. Just OK. Tragic Idol= From what I've heard; it seems they are just saying "fuck it, lets just repeat DT that's what most fans would want anyway." The PL gothic metal logo is back and they seem to be picking up right where DT left off. Great for most PL fans but not for me. Nicks voice sounds great on the synth pop stuff, why not use that? How about bring back the Death/Doom vocals as well! I hope they do some vocal variety on the rest of the album. One thing is for sure... This logo will be on all future releases. I would be surprised if they pulled a Mustaine and re-released BIN- FDUDUU with the gothic metal logo. I will still probably pick up Tragic Idol |

Believe In Nothing is horrible by comparison. You're just joking around with this shit, right? I'm supposed to believe This: is better than this: Punch yourself in the face dumbfuck. why not just use genre labeling to describe music and possibly recommend people stuff, instead of definitely putting bands in them and question when they won't fit in anymore. I don't get that. I kind of have to agree with Rwally, eventhough his words might be harsh
also, if you have a problem with some of the stuff being too slow, maybe you should spend your money on different bands |

I'm sorry but Icon is better than Believe In Nothing. These aren't opinions. They are objective facts

I agree with a lot of what Ryan said but 'Believe in Nothing' is a bit weak, some good tracks though (as always with PL) and 'Host' was great, not metal but great all the same.
Their strongest albums for me are (apart from BIN) from Draconian Times'' up until 'In Requiem'. |

QUOTE why not just use genre labeling to describe music and possibly recommend people stuff, instead of definitely putting bands in them and question when they won't fit in anymore. I don't get that. I kind of have to agree with Rwally, eventhough his words might be harsh That doesn't generate much discussion does it? Plus, Wally is the dorky, predictable and stupid love child of Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin. I figured that the boards resident Ohio, Dream Theater lovin', Republican dipshit would provide some of his "musical taste = scientific fact" non-sense. And like a Right -wing loon; he came through in flying delusional colors. Sometimes I think Wally is just doing shtick; but he's not clever enough, in the slightest, to pull that off. Sadly, unlike Republican politicians who spew their garbage to appeal to the Lowest Common Denominator. WALLY IS THE GRADE -A, AMERICAN BORN N' RAISED, THOROUGHBRED L TO THE C TO THE MOTHER FUCKIN' D I was just giving MY OPINION on what I think is PL's most convincing sound. That's all. Wally is fucking clown-shoes. If Wally's words were a song this would be the chorus... GOT MY WHEELS IN MOTION AND I'VE GOT A PATH TO BEAT HIT THE ROAD TO I DON'T KNOW AND LOOK FOR TOUGH SHIT STREET MOTOPYSCHO!!!!! The world doesn't need a hero, nor does it need Wally. QUOTE also, if you have a problem with some of the stuff being too slow, maybe you should spend your money on different bands If this wasn't addressed to me, then I apologize for the following paragraph. I'm going to assume it is. My problem with Icon isn't just because it's kinda slow. Matt Archer is horrible. That's my problem. If Lee Morris was the drummer during Icon; I'd like it alot more. Even PL would agree with me. Do you see Archer drumming with them after Icon? No. Why? He Sucks. Period. I even said the songs were good. QUOTE Thread turns into two musical-elitist douchebags / retards flaming each other in 3...2...1... We have lift off! QUOTE Ryan and Wally should just tie the knot already - they're bickering like a couple that's been married for years. QUOTE I loved the album back then, but you pretty much hit the nail on the issues I have with this album today. Can't really enjoy it anymore and the main problem is the drumming. If I remember correctly the drummer also quit following this record as he realized he couldn't keep up with the rest of the band anymore. You are correct, sir or candy-tits, whichever. Lee Morris started working with PL on Draconian Times up until 2003. Matt Archer has not been seen since. Glad you understand what I'm talking about. Drumming can make or break an album. Drumming making an album= BME, Draconian Times Drumming breaking an album= Endgame, Icon Wally is gay and doesn't get this concept. QUOTE This thread is going to get really long now Wally. Understand simple math and do the following... Realize you're an idiot + Shut up = it won't QUOTE Just because you have every album doesn't mean you know what the fuck you're talking about. Dumbest sentence ever. I own ALL of their shit yet I don't know what I'm talking about. In what reality does that makes sense? If we were discussing facts, you'd be dead wrong. But... There are no facts in musical taste. Your opinion is just that, "yours". You fool. QUOTE Icon isn't good or considered in their peak work? Are you out of your fucking mind? No, but you clearly are. (To the latter) Get out of Ohio Walters. You are getting dumber by the minute. (To the first sentence) I've already explained my issues with Icon. I even said it was good, twice. You dunce. I prefer Draconian Times over Icon. Why. Lee Morris > better than Matt Archer. Even PL thinks so. How can I be so sure? Because after Lee Morris left they got Jeff Singer then Adrian Erlandson. No more Matt Archer since Icon. Fucking Fact. Can't you fucking read! Icon would have been great with Lee Morris. What don't you understand? QUOTE Believe In Nothing is horrible by comparison. That's an opinion. And I don't give a fuck about yours. Besides, BIN is good for what it is. Good Dark Rock with a solid drummer. Icon is Draconian Times with a bad drummer. I mean awful. Lars is way better. QUOTE I'm sorry but Icon is better than Believe In Nothing. These aren't opinions. They are objective facts QUOTE Saying the opposite is like saying Supercharger is better than Burn My Eyes. If you like Linkin Park, you might feel that way. Not my opinion, but that's because I don't like Staind or Linkin Park. Do you understand the difference between 'facts" and "opinions"? Of course you don't, you live in Ohio. Why did I even bother to ask? QUOTE You're just joking around with this shit, right? I was hoping your entire existance was just that. Wallys life = Megadeths The World Needs a Hero. Sadly, neither Dave nor Wally was putting us on. This is real, folks. This post has been edited by RyanJL79: Mar 22 2012, 11:36 AM |
