Smith hasn't signed...the deal has been on the table, but that's it. They may have pulled it until the know about Peyton.

There was an early report that suggested Smith wanted 5 years instead of 3 but he came out and said that was bogus and he's okay with 3 years. So then speculation was that he wanted more money (especially of the guaranteed variety seeing how Kaepernick will be looking over his shoulder). So it would make sense for the 49ers to pursue Manning for leverage.

If Manning just wants to get paid, Titans or Broncos will work fine. If he wants championships the 49ers are a no brainer. Even though big dummy is rich as fuck, I'm sure he will chase the cash.

Cedric Griffin (former CB for Minnesota) signs to Washington for a 1 year deal and it's reported he could be playing CB or Free Safety position(s)? Interesting...

If Manning ends up in San Fran, that'd be insane!?!? They would be quite the fucking team.

eee.gif I love how San Fran came out of nowhere, late in this frenzy. They were the team I was hoping for from the beginning, to court Manning. But I thought Harbaugh would give Smith the benefit of the doubt. Now that Smith is pushing his luck about re-signing to the only team that would really want him...HaHAHA it would be fucking fantastic if it all blows up in his face and SF get Manning instead. Smith is a dumbass for not signing on the dotted line as soon as possible. What leverage does he have over SF? none. I hope Manning wants superbowl chances instead of buckets of money and off-field job opportunities.

After repeated knee problems, I don't see him playing CB at all... but he's intriguing as a FS.

Well that's good cause we need a free safety more than a CB. We need a serious boost for our secondary.

Smith has some mobility and would fit in good here. KC is about two OL and one DL away from serious contention. I know Smith would be an improvement over Cassel but I don't know how much better he would be.

The reason I started this thread, Evan Mathis, re-signed with the Eagles for 5 years, $25 million with 7 of that guaranteed. Good for him, not bad for a who was barely playing a couple of years ago.

Also, Steve Young had an interesting take on Manning and the Niners:

QUOTE
"It is the best opportunity for Peyton Manning," Young added. "They knew it, and they waited until all the wannabes kind of exhausted themselves. Then they came in right at the end, and that's probably why they will land him at this point."

I dunno why, but I have a feeling it's going to happen. Denver's offer is 5 years, $90 million, with 30 of that guaranteed, and Denver has said that's their best offer. They have more cap space than the Niners, but the Niners have enough to match that offer. If they up the guaranteed money they have to be the favorites. I don't think the Titans have a chance unless Manning really is in it for the money. Unless they low-ball him (something they very well could do, given this ownership's history) I don't see how he doesn't become a Niner. Plus, they are going to be opening a new stadium in the near future, how perfect a storm is it to have Manning behind center to open up a new venue?

So when we were first talking about Peyton Manning going somewhere else, San Francisco was the place I said made most sense. It doesn't make sense that he'd draw this out this way if he wasn't trying to get people involved. He has to be a 49er at this point. He has to see the Super Bowl right there.

Patriots finally signed Brandon Llloyd. They brought in Anthony Gonzalez as well.

Can anyone from Texas tell me if Eric Winston is worth a $hit, not familiar with his work???? We brought in Quinn to replace Orton at backup...hmmm. 10lookout.gif Bronco rejects abound.

Seahawks signed Matt Flynn to a 3 year deal. Now, it gets real interesting with the Alex Smith visiting the Dolphins. They are going to be pulling for him hard now, which may leave the 49ers shit out of luck if Manning doesn't sign with them

winston's good, not great. when it comes to pass blocking, he gets beat about two or three times a game. i was shocked the texans let him go, but i don't think he's expendable.

I get the impression that the Niners are DTF on Manning. I'd be shocked if he ended up in Denver or Tennessee unless Tennessee offers him part of the franchise.

Unless Manning and Harbaugh both believe that they cannot get along with each other then how the hell does not Manning not believe that they're the best option to sign with?

Peyton Manning is your new Denver Broncos QB.

(Edit: Broncos play in New England this year! Yes!)

At least it wasn't the Titans. 09cheese.gif

Schefter has said that the Broncos will now try to trade Tebow.

Bah, figured it was a long shot for the 49ers. At least no more waiting on a decision. Alex Smith to the Dolphins or back to SF? Maybe Niners will sweeten the deal a la Sanchez's "apology extension". Smith has no shortage of haters but for 2012 I would way rather have him starting than Kaep, Hasselbeck, Josh Johnson, or whoever else is out there.

Just read this on another board regarding Tebow:

"Cowboys should trade for him. Have Romo play the first 55 minutes, then put Tebow in to close the game out."

So who will be his receivers, I know Royal went to the Chargers. That leaves Decker and who else? I don't follow the Broncos that much, so I'm not sure what their talent is like.

Demariyus Thomas looked like a monster at times, and that's with a running back throwing him the ball. His fantasy value just skyrocketed.

Dank, you remember Dermariyus Thomas as the guy catching 50 yarders all over the Steelers in the playoffs last year.

Thomas had four catches in that game: 51, 58, 15, and 80 for the game winning TD in OT.

D'oh, forgot about Thomas.

Wonder how those guys feel, as some of them really got behind Tebow.
