I briefly got into Anathema back in the day but haven't listened to them for several years. This sounds pretty good for what it is but these days I can't find more than 5 minutes per day that I would want to sit and listen to stuff like Anathema and Dredg.

anathema has been such a snooze fest for me ever since a natural disaster. they used to have that sweet darkness to them that has now vanished. it's like they're doing the same song over and over again and it just keeps getting boring every time.
whatever happened to this anathema. i loved it. |

I must be one of the few people who listens to a lot of really heavy dark stuff who doesn't like older Anathema. I love the fact that their music now is so uplifting. Alternative 4 is a great album with some great songs, but imo very one dimensional, and everything previous to that album bores me to tears. I love the experimentalism and progressiveness that really started to come in on Judgement and A Fine Day To Exit. A Natural Disaster and everything since that album is all gold in my opinion. I love the fact that their music now is so uplifting. that's exactly why i don't like the new anathema. i find it hard to connect to the music. i do listen to a lot of this uplifting music, but anathema for me is not that band. i've had the luck to watch one of anathema's shows from the photo pit and the tragic-dramatic-to-tears vibe i got from that does not match up to the last two records at all. that lost control track is awesome and what i'm talking about. which reminds me i should watch again the were you there? live dvd again. i think it's one of the best live recordings i have seen. the vibe is awesome. magic. |

that jusgement clip is amazing
some of the tracks on were you there are much better than the same tracks on one moment and also vice versa, so both are required viewing natural disaster and before (except maybe fine day) were like pink floyd with an slight underlying evilness to it, now there are occasional glimpses of awesomeness, such as the new rack i posted above (but youtube have taken down) another newish track that still has that old vibe BOW TO THE CONTRARIAN MESSIAH |

What a fag. That's because the dark stuff you listen to is basically power metal with shrieking vocals...... which isn't really dark at all. It's not about anything real. I haven't heard the new one yet, but it's not better than Silent Enigma. I know that much. I really can't get into Pentecost, Serenades or Silent Enigma. Not my cuppa.
Love everything they've done Eternity onwards. [/pointlesscontributiontothethreadLOL] |

That's not good? Really? You guys are bumming me out. If these bands that go light play any of these kinds of songs live in front of hardcore fans, they would start a mini-riot. That's why I was so jacked that Katatonia and Children of Bodm did at least song off every album on their anniversary tours. That shit is awesome. Hearing Lacuna Coil is about to do the same thing. Its not that I don't think its good music, its just not to my tastes. They've always been great musicians, great at what they do and it just so happens they've evolved into something that fits my taste in music perfectly.
