OK so clearly this deserves it's own thread. All you freaks moaning about it being too slow, or it being shit can fuck right off out of here.

Mad Men Season 5 starts on Sunday 25th March in the US, and Tuesday 27th March for the UK.

Here's an article featuring interviews with Jon Hamm, Elizabeth Moss, Vincent Kartheiser, John Slattery and Kiernan Shipka.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/tv-and-radio/201...mad-men-is-back

I have absolutely no idea what's going to happen. I'm worried that we've seen the last of Bert Cooper, and I'll be gutted if Lane Pryce isn't about as much either. Either way, I'm fucking excited.

It's been 2 years since the show was on last, I don't know if I remember what happened. I know I'll be watching the 5 minute "previously on" intently. 01laugh.gif

Yeah, seriously. I think I'll definitely give a few hours to the end of Season 4 on Netflix this weekend.

That was so good. They sure spent a lot of time away but knocked it out of the park with their return. Holy shit that was excellent, and funnier than most comedies on TV. I'm so glad this show is back.

QUOTE
Megan Calvet

Megan Calvet (Jessica Paré) is Don's fiancée (as of the final episode of season 4) and secretary at SCDP. Following the death of Miss Blankenship, she takes over as Don Draper's secretary. She indicates to Don an interest in advertising, and one night while discussing work she and Don have a brief sexual encounter on his couch. She commented to him that she would not run out crying if they slept together, presumably a reference to Don's previous secretary Allison, who left SCDP in tears following her one-night stand with Don. In the season 4 finale, Don takes Megan on a trip to California to take care of his kids.

Although his intelligent and beautiful girlfriend Faye (SCDP's head of marketing research) has been aggressively pursuing him for months, he proposes marriage to Megan, while on vacation in California, and she accepts. Although he doesn't know her well, he believes that Megan would make an excellent mother-figure to his three children, and she is calm, kind, and seems to have natural mothering abilities. Betty increasingly lacks all of these in season four and Faye appears very uncomfortable around his children on the occasions that she has met them. Megan is originally from Montreal, and French is her first language.

And yeah... Roger and Jane's hatred for each other was hilarious. Lane dancing. Campbell spending the entire episode looking for Carla. I wish I could remember Stan's quote about the bean ballet 01laugh.gif!!!

Yeah I was trying to remember what we knew about her, but then I remembered there wasn't much too remember. She was largely unknown except that was a secretary with higher ambitions and she had no problem "sleeping her way to the top". This episode(s) did an excellent job of showing who she is and that she's more than a little nutty. Seems like a perfect fit for Don, but I see this going very badly. Him telling her about his past as Dick Whitman was surprising. That really could turn around to bite him in the ass. As cold and bitchy as Betty ever has been, she kept his secret. This chick? If he stops being the new warm and cuddly Don Draper (that we see as the episode goes on is really a superficial thing) and goes back to the old wandering eye Don Draper and scorns her? Oooooh, that's gonna be a war. I'm telling you, this chick is trouble if Don can't behave. And you know he can't.

Oh and I just saw on Twitter someone said "Don Draper's new wife > The Bud Ice penguin" Hitman may get that reference, and maybe a few others, but I LOL'd.

Great way to ease back in. I hardly remembered anything that happened last season 01laugh.gif

Sterling is just hilarious. The humor on the show is very much like The West Wing. Where important dramatic shit can be happening and then some great dialogue and jokes come out of nowhere from these great characters.

Fantastic start. 50stars.png

I'm "lucky" I suppose, I only started watching the show last year and so it was fresh in my mind what had happened last season. 09cheese.gif

Indeed. Love the show, such a pleasure to watch. Also love how they worked January Jones' real life pregnancy weight into the show... that said, a lot of that has to be makeup right? Because they did a bang up job of it, or she went all DeNiro/Bale method actor on us and for real got big.

I love Harry. That dude is such a doofus. I'm really intrigued by this Ginsberg guy as well, could be a very interesting character. I already love his dad. "Lets get two women, a younger one and an older one." 01laugh.gif

I'm very interested with how Roger deals with Pete Campbell. Whatever happens, it should be good!

It only manages to get better, rarely is a show so god damn consistent.

Whats happening to Don, though? He seems so mellowed out this season. Still as cool as a cucumber and a man I'd definitely sleep with. Don't get me wrong. Well, theres plenty more season left for him to become the bitter and cynical Don of prior seasons.

That was probably one of the funnier episodes they've had in a while. I liked it because there wasn't really any season-long story arc making it's way into the episode. It was just Sterling, Cooper, Draper, Price being Sterling, Cooper, Draper, Price.

John Slattery directed that episode too. Impressive.

And I think it had it's darker moments, especially for Pete and Layne.

That episode was awesome. The fight! "You're a greasy little pimp", so many great one liners throughout. Beginning to feel sorry for Pete though, hated him until now.

Best Episode of the season so far. Just perfect story telling. Three totally engrossing stories told with great visuals acting and writing.

Roger's LSD trip was hilarious, but ended on such a somber note we all knew was coming. Are Don and Megan far behind at this point?

That was amazing. Not only one of the best episodes of this season, I'd say one of the best Mad Men episodes ever. Hell, in the afterglow I'd even go so far as to say it's one of the best episodes of TV I've ever seen. Simply flawless.

You know one of the things I always found so spectacular about the film American Beauty is that I've had the experience of being in the theater full of people all laughing at a hilarious scene and then SNAP! Total silence due to the drama the happened directly afterwards. It's an amazing feeling, but something that is very hard to pull of and make it feel natural. The LSD trip with Roger was just like that. It was uproariously hilarious one minute, and then devastating the next.

Also very telling was where Don and Megan ended up. Right after she alludes to their relationship losing a little something after they fight, she gets up to go to work. This was a brilliant callback to earlier in the season where they have the fight after the birthday party she threw and they ended up on the floor after a violent argument, but instead end up fucking.

Hot damn this show is so fucking good.

Agreed. While it was funny on the surface, there was such a dark, uncomfortable feeling the entire time. Mesmerizing, but extremely unsettling too.
