Rosetta - Je N'en Connais Pas la Fin

well, this album definitely doesn't disappoint. especially this song which is pure genius. love the heavy guitars at the end. Yes TGS is still the better album, but this is superior to W/L if you ask me (which for me really only has 'Wake' as a great song). For me Rosetta have taken Isis' torch

...for all you aspiring musicians, Kevin Gilbert - Suite fugue (Dance of the A&R men)

Hi, John it's Mel from Meglaphone
I've been listening to your tape for the 19th time
Oh that's another call - can I call you
Back when I was in a band we used to sound like this
And I loved your songs, they reminded me of myself
You sound like Air Supply meets GWAR
In a good way, Here's my other number
Can you wait for just a sec -
That's another call, I'll get back to you
Have my girl take your information

Hi, John it's Guy from Groan-o-phone
Heard some talk about the band and the way you sing
I really think it's great - can we make a
Deal with me, call me a friend, we'll be a family
You're a talented individual
If you sign here on the dotted line... that's good
And my nephew will be your producer

Yo, John it's Bill from Biddybum
Word is traveling around that you've got some tunes
We will not be outbid -
Radio is in the bag, we own the chart
They will not add your song
Without checking with our promotion staff

Hi, John it's Shep from Shinola
We really should do a lunch
Quite a tape indeed - my secretary flipped
You're a genius

My name is Johnny Virgil
I play this here guitar
I play it for myself

CAN WE SPEAK CANDIDLY?!

Got hands that move like clockwork
A voice that carries far
Got a love for nothing else

LET'S BE SPONTANEOUS!

Hi, Jack it's Al from A&R
You don't really need the band they are in the way
We only wanted you any way
So dump the band, you are the face
You better wise up fast
This is not a game - we're professionals
Did I mention that you won't be out this year
Cannot be helped - go take a vacation
One more thing that you should know
We're all counting on you to be
Our new golden boy
Lots of lives and jobs in the balance

Virgil it's Pete your president
Calling to congratulate you on your fine choice
You must be very proud, so are we
I'm sure your music is terrif although I must admit
I don't listen to much of anything
Did I mention that I used to have a band?
I have to run, been great talking to you

Hi, Joe about publicity
Thought about the photo op with the cripple
No, we need a sharper hook - like a scandal
Maybe you could rape a nun
Or better still a priest
Some androgyny could be interesting

Hi, Jim it's Val from video
Who decided on your hair?
Can we cut it off?
We'd like to see a buzz bin rotation

My name is Johnny Virgil
I play this here guitar...
Ah fuck it

ARE YOU A PRIORITY!

My name is Johnny Virgil
I'm gonna be a star
If this is how it's done

DO YOU WANT A HIT OF THIS?

WitchCraft - drool.gif (ohhhh my oh my, im so dissapointed i JuST found out about this band!? sweedish band that does classic doom metal! sounds like sabbath and the doors imo) CHECK THIS OUT NOW!!!!!!!

This Witchcraft song has some lyrics sung BACKWARDS. Crazy shit and I love it....here is the song and lyrics:

Witchcraft - Her Sisters They Were Weak

The once was a king
Who live a palace uphill
He had three beautiful daughters
They had no free will

The king sold his soul
To the devil yes indeed
In return he was promised
Wealth and life eternally

The devil came riding one day
Upon his blackened horse
The princesses was his aim
They were destined to run his course

One of the girls were tall
More beautiful than blue skies
Her hair was colored bright
And she had white marble eyes

She will die

Sung backwards:
(Her sisters they were weak
They fell for the devil's charms
Mesmerizing eyes
They went right into his arms
Afraid to look around
The bright girl ran away
One last glance
And she saw her sisters pray.)

The king he sat alone
And listened to the sound
He rest upon his throne
While the palace hang on the ground

Witchcraft - I Want You To Know

"We are the reason why the Gods change the season", impressive lyrics.

this song over and over and over... drool.gif Possibly their best ever.

I ran with the dead and chased
And chased my own shadow
Built walls, walls of belief
Reaction from the fall
We are ones of Will
Desperate and dying
I was, I was along for the ride
The ride of the unaligned
I gave you every word to hold
On a deathless night
Sucking, bleeding, inside out
If I had gave in
I'd never live that down

And I wanted to believe in everything I'm after
But I was drowning in the hell that I raised
And when there's nothing left to say
You won't need a reason
To kill these cancers that may come your way

Long cold wind hits face to remind your not done
Unloved failure, serves as lessons learned
Faith regained from plagues
What will I find in me
I found, I found in the falls, in the falls
The falls of the unaligned
I ran with the dead and chased my own shadow
Built walls of belief
I saw the dead rise
I saw the dead rise
Reflection dying with me

Love that album! ^ Can't wait for Enemy Unbound.

I personally can't stop listening to Crack The Skye these days. Start to finish, not a single skipper, which is not only rare but vital to the wonderfully crafted flavor of the record as a whole. Love it. And yes, if I could marry it, I probably would. Sorry, Blood Mountain.

I'm in the middle of a serious proggy/sludgy/stoner...y phase right now come to think of it, so I'm open to any recommendations any of you might have of shit that's in the same vein as Mastodon, Baroness, etc.

^ My kind of language.

Nothing like Mastodon or Baroness, those kind of bands are hard to find. I can't name any that aren't either of those two. 01laugh.gif But if you want sludgey doomy stuff..

Electric Wizard
Isis (early work, I.e Celestial)
Shrinebuilder
Reverend Bizarre
Earth
Old Man Gloom (A sludge band with a hardcore & noise/ambient edge).
Zozobra (Sort of OMG's sister band, but less emphasis on noise & ambient parts. A lot more "friendly" to listen to).

I guess they are more "Leviathan"-era Mastodon'ish than "Crack The Skye", but they are cool nonetheless:

Sludge Metal-

While the style was anticipated by the Melvins from Washington, many of its earliest pioneers were from the state of Louisiana.[1]

yep, one of the fewer "newer" bands that had me in awe - first i thought that they must be from gothenburg - but hell no, they are from tampa florida - wierd but great nonetheless

the cool thing about them is that they don't go with the whole faster, louder, more technical path that every new band out there seems to have chosen for their music

...aaand - what is always a great thing - they make long songs seem very short, because they are just fuckin awesome

oh...and +1 on runk's black tusk recommendation - i'm loving their new record
