Saw I finally got to check out the tv show Burn Notice last night after hearing my sister rave about it. It's also got a nearly perfect rating on Amazon and 4.5 stars on Netflix (quite a high score for Netflix). Totally disappointed. Has a solid premise but a very low budget, B-level, bush league feel. Shit acting, shit dialog, charisma-starved main character, Gabrielle Anwar making a laughable attempt at an Irish accent, Bruce Campbell being less entertaining than his Old Spice commercials.... It was sort of watchable for two episodes but I stuffed that disc back in the envelope instead of watching the third. I give it 2/5.

The Last King Of Scotland was great.
The actor who played Idi Amin was a perfect fit for the role. Yes he is a well known actor but I never remember he's name... I would give the film **** / *****. |

The chick that played Edith Piaf did an amazing job. I loved the feel of France in the early 1900's the film gave off, and they did a pretty good job telling Piaf's early life or trying to put together her early life since no one really knows much about it. Anyway, fuck whoever doesn't dig this film in the ass. |

The Foot Fist Way - **1/2
I was really expecting this to be hilarious. I think I was hoping for another King of Kong. There were a couple of good laughs peppered throughout and quite a few visual absurdities a la Napolean Dynamite (which they compared it to in the synopsis, but should not have). Mainly, it was awkward and sad. Which it was supposed to be, sure, but it just wasn't the right amount of awkward and sad to make me laugh out loud as much as I wanted to. |

^ yet to see that one... and the village. But today I watched:
The Happening **** Which was much better than I anticipated. A simple idea and it worked effectively. And damn that old lady was spooky!! yesterday I watched: Childs Play **** must have been at least 15 years since I last saw this one. It was much better than I remembered, bulding suspension and camerawork worked extremely well compared to typical 80's horror movies. gonna see pt. 2 and 3 later.

I like you and all dude, but after giving Lady in the Crapper 4 1/2 out of 5, remind me never to listen to you for film recommendations again! As far as me: Hellboy 2 - 8.5/10 Great summer movie, way better than the first. Just good summer comic book movie fun with that dash of Del Toro's magic that sets it above the rest. The visuals are amazing, and Ron Perlman is fantastic again. I could do without Selma Blair as Liz, but she doesn't completely fuck it up.  |

american splendor **** pretty sweet film, funny too.
assassination of jesse james by the coward robert ford ***** a masterpiece. probably too slow for 99% of the population though, which is too bad, because it's a well told story, gorgeous cinematography, fantastic acting from everyone. i hope one day the director's cut is available, which is supposed to be much longer. encounters at the end of the world **** awesome documentary by WERNER HERZOG-he was also in attendance, it was a bit surreal seeing him hanging out and shit. very cool guy though, did a q&a and i even got to talk to him for a bit and get my geek on with a picture. real fiction *** it's an ok movie, basically kim ki duk wanted to make a movie in a day and with barely any budget-and for that alone, this is very impressive. basically a guy just snaps and goes on a rampage and put anyone that wronged him, in their place...so yeah its ok, just nowhere near as ridiculous as crank and not as good as kim ki duk's other movies, such as 3-iron, samaria/samaritan girl, etc. the signal *** decent effort for being a no budget movie. in fact, VERY good effort. good ideas but midway through the movie it kinda stumbles a little. southland tales *** WTF??? and i read the graphic novels that lead up to the events of the movie and i am still confused. very silly, huge mess BUT EXTREMELY ENTERTAINING. i get what he's trying to say with his social commentary, it's just not well told. there wasn't a moment where i felt i should stop the movie but there were plenty of moments of "wow, really? for real? richard kelly, are you a one trick pony?"  |
