Spring Training Bitches!!!!! Wooooo!

Jair Jurrjens shows up with a strained pitching shoulder? Yikes. Stay away, stay far away.

How does Johnny Damon not have a deal yet? He's gonna be a ChiSox, I betcha.

Speaking of not having a deal, what the fuck is up with Felipe Lopez? He was a top 5 second baseman last year, and he can't get a deal anywhere? WTF?

So I'm wondering, can someone tell me how ESPN's fantasy baseball gurus can go and rate Miguel "I get shitfaced the night before playoff games" Cabrera ahead of Mark Teixeira when Teixeira had the better year last year across the board, plays on a better team, and even their predictions have him doing EVERYTHING better, with the exception of like 3 batting average points. Where is the logic?

Damon to the Tigers for $8 mil. No deferred money, no-trade clause, no option for a second year. Boras wins. I'm glad the Sox passed on this.

I just started following Ozzie Guillen on Twitter and it is by far the most epic thing ever. What a fucking lunatic. I love him. Seriously, Ozzie's Twitter is worth getting Twitter for. And FakeJoeMauer.

You guys see where McGwire took batting practice with the Cards the other day? He saw 15 pitches and hit 11 of them out of the park. Not bad!

Aroldis Chapman hit 100 and stuck out three in two innings in his MLB debut (although it was against the Royals). Some are calling him a Cuban Koufax, so this only means that Dusty Baker will pitch him in 250 innings this year, and he will be out of baseball in 5 years after a few surgeries.

Oh boy, MASSIVE blow to the Twins....

QUOTE
Joe Nathan has been diagnosed with a torn ulnar collateral ligament.

Nathan will wait two weeks for some of the swelling in his elbow to subside, then he will try to throw a baseball. If it does not go well, the Twins closer will have to decide whether to undergo Tommy John surgery. He should be counted out for the 2010 season at this point. Jon Rauch, who has closing experience and was added to the Twins' bullpen in August, might be asked to take over ninth-inning duties if Nathan decides to have surgery. Matt Guerrier was excellent last season and could also handle the role. Mar. 9 - 8:54 am et

Fuck. That sucks. Nathan is a good guy, and a great closer. Jon Rauch is not. What happened to Pat Neshak's Chimaira listening-to ass? He was hurt last year, right? He was pretty money before that though, if he has a good spring, couldn't he close?

This is why you don't hold fantasy drafts until near the end of spring training. Imagine the guy in a big money league who took Nathan in the 7th or 8th round. Ouch!

My guess is that they go with Matt Guerrier most days and Rauch or Mijares close on days when Guerrier has pitched two days in a row. Guerrier is great when he's fresh but you can't go 3 days in a row with him.

Neshek is another possibility but he's only a year out from TJ Surgery and I think they're going to bring him on slow.

The Red Sox have called a 10:30 press conference at which it looks like Nomar Garciaparra will announce his retirement. Man... I feel so old. I remember him being a hot shot rookie and destined for the Hall Of Fame...

If you compare his age 23-29 seasons, he was the best hitting short stop of all time in terms of pure hitting... ARod probably had him in power, but when you talk on-base and batting average and not striking out, none topped Garciaparra. He made Jeter look like a chump.

Nomah was awesome. The one guy who probably SHOULD have used steroids. Look at A-Rod, he used, came clean, people basically don't give a shit, and when all is said and done he'll be a 1st ballot Hall of Famer.

Out of the 'big-4' shortstops of the time, Nomah was always my favorite. Maybe because he's an LA kid, but more likely because of his game. Like Fox said, he was just a complete player.

I think he should get consideration for the HoF. May not make it, but he should get close. I know staying healthy is part of it, but he was just too damn good to not get any consideration, and had he stayed healthy we might just be talking about the greatest shortstop of all time.

Only 80 baseball players have a higher career batting average than Nomar. Seven are currently active (Min. 3,000 plate appearances):

Manny Ramirez
Derek Jeter
Matt Holliday
Vladimir Guerrero
Todd Helton
Ichiro Suzuki
Albert Pujols

That's some nice company.

Yeah, he gave the Dodgers a couple good years. It was actually nice to see him wearing the blue in his last really productive, somewhat non-injury plagued (for him) year.

I actually got to go to the game with his first return to Fenway last year. We gave him a surreal standing O. That was very nice, although I didn't expect that to be his last year in the bigs.

We got creamed that day, 6-0. Nomar went 2-4 with an RBI. I was happy 02smile.gif
